GETTING started...
We
appreciate that you’ve looked us up and welcome you to the world
of coaching, personalized training, and ultimately a lifetime of
fitness. Our objectives are to establish your personal goals,
develop sport specific skills, educate you as an athlete and train
you to a new level of fitness to bring out the best performances
possible and reach your desired goals. Weight loss, general
fitness or pro aspirations are all great motivations for inquiring
about coaching services. Personal training and coaching is
offered for the beginning exerciser to the elite athlete. Emde
Coaching offers you an annual approach to your general fitness
aspirations, cycling, running or multi-sport aspirations with
detailed personal (daily) training schedules, designed just for
you!
We are
dedicated to improving your performance and bringing you closer to
your full athletic potential no matter what your level of
fitness or ability. Usually a 1 hour initial assessment and visit is
scheduled and a field test can be administered shortly thereafter
(if applicable), depending on the individual. Based upon the
initial visit and the field test information we will set up heart
rate training zones and/or power training zones, individual
schedules and plans to help you reach your goals. A personalized
approach to coaching includes being able to meet together
periodically, watching your training progress, and cheering you
on with your at your races if your goals are such (this is one
of the most satisfying elements of the coaching profession in
our opinion). Whether your goal is the
national championships, your first triathlon, a 200-mile bike
tour, mountain bike or road races, a RAAM qualifier, 24h MTB races or general fitness and weight loss, we’ll build a training
plan that gets you there!
PHILOSOPHY
Old-fashioned hard work and consistency is the basis of any good
training program. We’ll strive for quality and not necessarily
quantity. Whether you are an elite athlete or just starting out,
we
understand that many of you may have family and work commitments
that need consideration and training like a full-time professional
may not be feasible or desirable. The key is to keep your life in
balance and we’ll work hard to achieve the right balance for you.
A
training plan should be set up annually and the winter or
preparation months are just as important as the spring and summer
(season) months. Weight programs may be implemented within the
program and we do require the use of a heart rate monitor which is
a very helpful tool for your training. Keep in mind, it takes
time to learn about you as an athlete. We’ll explore and develop
your limiters as well as continue to work your natural strengths
and abilities.
Another
key ingredient to your success as an athlete and our effectiveness
as a coaches is communication. We'll need weekly feedback from you
about your training. We’ll talk a lot about your training and we’ll
be there to answer any questions along the way. Honesty and
trust build a strong relationship and a good “fit” between athlete
and coach is of the utmost importance. As we make it a point of
keeping up on the latest in the fitness industry we believe you
should be informed too. We always welcome queries about your
training as a more informed athlete makes a better athlete.
Personal background
Marla:
Certified expert coach with USACycling and USATriathlon as well
as a CPT (certified personal trainer) with A.C.E. (American
Council on Exercise). I recently served on the board in 2004 with USAT’s
PNWRegion, chairing the coaching position. In the early 80’s,
triathlons and running were my sports of choice and the triathlons
eventually led me to the competitive world of cycling. My bicycle
racing experience spans three decades with both national and
international racing experience and several national medals as an
elite cyclist. I was a member of the 1994 World Championship team
for the USABA in Belgium and twice in the early 90’s I trained
under the national coaching staff as an athlete at the Olympic
Training Center in Colorado Springs, CO. I have expertise and
elite racing experience in most disciplines of cycling including;
mountain biking, road cycling, and cyclocross. Over the years my
coaching experience has extended from junior cycling programs to
the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society’s “Team In Training” cycling
program and everything in between. I write fitness articles for
the KXLY “Women’s Weekly” Website here in Spokane, organize the
Inland Northwest Cyclocross race series, the Valley Girl
Triathlon, cross country running races, duathlons and present athlete
workshops in the Northwest area throughout the year. I currently
coach cyclists, runners, triathletes (including many Ironman
distance athletes) and multisport athletes of all ages, genders,
and levels in the Northwest region.
Michael: Category 1 USCF racer and Ultra
Endurance Cyclist, originally from Vienna, Austria,
