Spokane
Osteoporosis Centers Brochure
Free
bone density screening (using ultrasound) and
osteoporosis information will be available under the
Pavillion at the triathlon, August 16, 2009. During
the race you can discuss osteoporosis (one-on-one)
with men and women on the "Expert Panel". Ask them
about calcium intake, medical treatment, or specific
exercises for bone health...whatever your specific
concerns are!
Before the Awards Ceremony, Dr. Lynn Kohlmeier, Director of
our local community osteoporosis
programs and an osteoporosis specialist at the
Spokane Osteoporosis Center, will lead a short Q & A
session. She'll address the questions you
asked during the online registration process or
whatever questions are on your mind the day of the
race. (Osteoporosis information
provided by NOF and bone density screening provided
by ORSC, OSHMC, WOC-Spokane & CHER)

FACTS ABOUT OSTEOPOROSIS AND FRACTURE:
There are more fractures in the NW than there should
be in our elderly population! Osteoporosis is
a silent disease until you fracture but it is
preventable and treatment is available at all
stages. Prevention starts early with good nutrition,
especially calcium and vitamin D, and weight bearing
exercise that safely loads the skeleton giving your
bones a reason to be strong.
Peak bone density develops by the time you are 30
years old and after this, our efforts are towards
maintaining the bone we have. Come to the West
Plains WunderWoman triathlon to learn more about
your fracture risk and how to keep your bones strong
for a lifetime!
